Last night, 20 June, the Woodland Park Zoo hosted representatives from The Arc. King County in order to share best practices when interacting with people who have “disabilities.” They probably surprised some in the audience when they shared that phrases like “You’re such an inspiration” or “You’re a special gift from God” etc. are up there with the worst things you can possibly say to anyone with diverse situations to yours. They also shared empowering/accommodating strategies that are embraced by those just wanting to be part of our joint voyage through life. Take a look at their website for more information.
