The depth of a cynical Secretary of the Interior. This photo is on the Interior Department website https://www.doi.gov though no mention is made of the threatened/endangered status of these animals.
Speak up!!
“… Historically, mountain lions roamed most of the United States. Today, the species is nearly extinct in eastern states, except for the endangered Florida panther (Puma concolor coryi). There are fewer than 100 Florida panthers left in the wild. Mountain Lions may still be hunted in the west. There are an estimated 30,000 mountain lions in the western United States. One mountain lion subspecies, the Florida panther, is critically endangered with a population of less than 100 individuals…”

Secretary of the Interior
Department of the Interior
I support maintaining the full extent of the Endangered Species Act protections and oppose the regulatory changes proposed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service on July 25, 2018.
*stripping protections from threatened species
*crippling the ability to designate critical habitat
*decreasing science-based decision-making while increasing political and economic influence over ESA implementation
*minimizing the need for interagency consultation and providing deference on ESA implementation to government agencies with no expertise in species conservation
Please maintain the much-needed protections provided by the ESA and its current implementing regulations and halt this Administration’s efforts to undermine what has been one of the world’s most effective laws for protecting wildlife.
The Endangered Species Act has provided needed protections to wildlife in danger for well over 40 years, preventing the extinction of 99% of listed species. Please allow it to continue working to protect our wildlife.
