Played on cello by Patrick Dexter. Music from my cottage in the West of Ireland
At the age of seven, Patrick began learning cello with some of Ireland’s leading cellists, including Arun Rao and Vyvienne Long. He received a distinction in Grade 8 cello from the Royal Schools of Music in 2010 and graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2012. Patrick spent a number of years teaching and studying abroad, receiving a master’s degree from Leiden University in the Netherlands before returning to Ireland.
In 2016, he helped found the The Octagon Ensemble, a community orchestra based in Westport’s Town Hall Theatre that seeks to promote string playing in Mayo. He performs weddings regularly with the Corrib Quartet, Irelands premier wedding string quartet. Patrick’s diverse musical interests range from contemporary composition to Renaissance and Baroque music.
Patrick currently teaches music, specialising in cello, the guitar and violin and runs a music programme for young string players at Gaelscoil na Cruaiche, Westport. Patrick also teaches violin and guitar at the Louisburgh School of Music.
