FIRST CONNECTION: OUR PEER-TO-PEER MENTORING PROGRAM
The Patti Robinson Kaufmann First Connection® Program is a free service of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) that introduces patients and their loved ones to a trained peer volunteer who has gone through a similar experience. First Connection® peer volunteers are in a unique position to provide support and community resource information to others facing a similar cancer diagnosis. The program gives patients and family members the opportunity to share experiences with someone who has “been through it,” and obtain valuable information about LLS and the other resources available to support them. Here is what one patient had to say about the program:
“I had a great talk with Ed yesterday. He had the same diagnosis and struggle that I did after multiple relapses. Talking with him validated many of my concerns about next steps and I feel more confident talking to my doctor about next steps. Thanks for arranging this connection. It was exactly what I had hoped for.”
As winter & the holidays draw closer and the pandemic precautions continue on for our patients, feelings of isolation can become more frequent. Connecting with peers has never been more important. We encourage you to keep First Connection® at the top of your list when talking with your networks about resources for patients & families.
